Environment Canada says an average of 15-20 centimetres will fall across the province.
The snow has begun in some areas, as it spreads west to east.
Rain could be mixed in along parts of the coast.
The forecaster says travel conditions will deteriorate quickly, so give yourself lots of time to get to your destination.

All schools in the Halifax, South Shore, Tri-County, Annapolis Valley and Chignecto-Central Regional Centres for Education are closed today.
CSAP schools in Western N.S, Halifax and Ecole acadienne de Truro are closed.
