In its first year in Greater Moncton, Shelter Movers will help move 100 individuals and families, fleeing abuse.

It held an official launch on Wednesday night.

Shelter Movers is the first official service of its kind in New Brunswick.

It is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization that provides moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse.

Founded in 2016, Shelter Movers has grown to seven locations across Canada. To date, volunteers have completed more than 5,000 moves for survivors of abuse.

It began expanding to its seventh chapter in the Hub City in early 2022.

Since then, over 40 volunteers have been trained and enough funds have been raised to help those individuals in need of help.

“To know now that we’re going to have an organization that we’ll be able to call and make those arrangements is going to make a huge, huge difference in our lives. Those types of services are going to save lives,” says Ginette Petitpas Taylor, MP for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe.
