A messy weekend in the province.

Many roads were too icy to drive as freezing rain fell in many areas.

This cancelled several hockey games and events across Nova Scotia.

The freezing rain is letting up today, but more rain is in the forecast.

Environment Canada still has a rainfall warning in effect for the southern coast of the province, with another 25 millimetres of rain expected.

Showers should continue off-and-on tonight and tomorrow.

Power Outages

An update on why thousands of Nova Scotians woke up to no power this morning.

Nova Scotia Power says they lost connection with their transmission tie to New Brunswick.

In a series of tweets, they say it caused their system to become unstable, which meant they needed to reduce power so they could fix the problem.

The utility says power was slowly restored once the re-connection was made, and they apologized for the inconvienience.

Initially, it was believed the power outages were due to freezing rain and poor weather conditions.

They’re investigating the transmission issue.
