A major financial boost for the Food Depot Alimentaire.

The provincial government is providing two million dollars.

Half was given before Christmas and the other half in March.

This will be used for purchasing healthy food for distribution to over 60 food banks and soup kitchens in New Brunswick.

The organization saw an increase in visits last year, of more than 30 percent compared to 2021, which amounts to around 25, 000 to 30, 000 visits every month.

Demand is expected to rise even more due to rising costs in 2023.

“The Food Depot Alimentaire has played a vital role in providing help to those in need,” said Health Minister Bruce Fitch. “We know there is a high demand in the province and without their work, it would be much more difficult for households who rely on food banks to feed themselves and their families.”
