Housing development plans grow on Skillen Crescent

By Tim Davidson Jan 13, 2023 | 12:14 PM

Plans for a housing development in Dryden could grow from 18 units to 60 units, if changes are approved by Council members.

During a Committee of the Whole meeting at City Hall on January 9, Chief Building Official Pam Skillen laid out an amended development agreement for future work at 5 Skillen Crescent.

Skillen’s report to councillors states the original agreement was approved by the previous batch of Councillors in December, 2020, and the city’s been working with the developer – 2755737 Ontario Inc – over the past two years through COVID-19, but the agreement has now expired.

Now, Council will need to approve an amended agreement for the new build to move forward – which lays out a number of improvements to what was originally planned.

Skillen explains that the original agreement of 2020 laid out plans for three buildings at 5 Skillen Crescent, which would include 6 housing units each – for a total of 18.

Now, the property’s plans are calling for each building to have 20 housing units for a total of 60 new units for the community, with 20 of them needing to be built within a year of approvals.

Councillors are expected to vote on and potentially approve the development plan at their January 23 Council meeting.

Skillen Crescent is found off of Wice Road, which is on the way into town on the Trans-Canada.
