Chirstmas light show, source of laser concern as plane lands in Halifax

By Steve MacArthur Jan 12, 2023 | 1:03 PM

Well, this is from the files of being a “new one”.

RCMP say it turns out holiday lights are the root cause of concern after a pilot called in a laser being pointed at the cockpit while landing at Halifax Stanfield.

On January 2, at approximately 6:50 a.m., an incoming flight was preparing to land when the pilots observed a green laser appear in the flight deck.

The pilots reported the incident to Air Traffic Control and advised that they believed the laser had been pointed from an area near the golf course on Old Guysborough Rd.

RCMP say they were contacted by people who live by the landing strip and told them a holiday laser projector light show had been pointed directly at the sky.

Investigators believe that this was the source of light involved in this incident and that there was no intention to aim it at approaching aircraft.
