A birthday celebration for Zack Lefave and Colton Cook was held in Yarmouth Sunday.

The tribute was held in Frost Park with speaking, singing and birthday cake.

Cathy Wallace spoke on behalf of Zack Lefave’s family.

“Something out of a nightmare has happened to us, ordinary words fail us but yet it is impossible to stay silent. Days should have never turned into years,” said Wallace. “Answers aren’t coming quick but it doesn’t mean we will ever give up.”

Wallace and other speakers urged anyone with information about Zack’s whereabouts to come forward.

He disappeared on January 1, 2021, and was last seen walking on Hwy. 334 in Plymouth, Yarmouth County. The RCMP are continuing to investigate Lefave’s disappearance.

Colton Cook’s mother Stacey Cook spoke about the victim impact statement she is writing for the murder trial.

“But the lawyers of the guilty and the judge get to read it first and tell me if I offend anybody and can remove whatever they like so I still do not ever have a say in the end,” said Cook. ‘This is how our justice system works and it is so broken it needs to be fixed.”

She says she asks herself every day why she goes to court because she feels Colton does not mean anything to anyone there.

The jury trials for Cook’s murder starts tomorrow in Yarmouth.

Yarmouth MLA and Nova Scotia Liberal Party Leader Zach Churchill attended the event, speaking to the crowd and thanking everyone for showing up and offering their support to the families.
