A high-risk sex-offender has been released on probation and ordered to leave Canada.

Allen William Desrosiers was arrested last month in Yarmouth on Criminal Harassment charges in relation to two incidents of stalking in the area.

In court yesteday, Desrosiers was ordered to surrender his Canadian passport and return to the United States.

He had been living in Rockville, Yarmouth County after serving a 23-year prison sentence in the U.S. for kidnapping, rape, assault and battery.

He is also not allowed to re-apply for a passport for three years, and he is not permitted to possess any weapons.

Desrosiers had been living in the area since August, but police didn’t inform the public of his presence until the day of his arrest, December 14th.

RCMP say the delay in notifying the public was attributed to Desrosiers relocating to Canada after being released from a correctional facility in a foreign country, which did not trigger the normal protocols.
