One Arrested In Eabametoong Murder Investigation

Ontario Provincial Police along with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service have arrested a 20 year old Eabametoong First Nation man in connection to a homicide on Tuesday in that community.

On December 27th a NAPS officer who was responding to a weapons call, requested assistance from the OPP after an individual, identified as 48 year old Brian Sagutch was pronounced deceased.

Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team, Forensic Identification Services, and Criminal Investigation Branch, along with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

The OPP says the Emergency Response Team assisted in locating and arresting the accused.

Ethan Waboose faces a charge of second degree murder and has been remanded into custody. He will appear in a Thunder Bay court on January 6th.

A post mortem is expected to take place at a later date in Toronto to determine the cause of death.

Eabametoong First Nation, also known as Fort Hope, is located 366 kilometres Northeast of Thunder Bay.
