First Few Months As Liberal Leader ‘A Whirlwind’: Holt

By Tamara Steele Dec 29, 2022 | 8:30 AM

Susan Holt calls life as the Liberal leader “a whirlwind” as she visits every corner of the province.

She won the leadership in August, adding it’s been wonderful to learn about the unique nature of each New Brunswick community.

Holt said she’s listening to New Brunswickers about what they want from elected officials.

“I think that is the core of New Brunswickers, we’re going neighbours, we’re pretty gritty and resilient folks. We do want things to be better but we’re prepared to do the work for it,” Holt said.

In November, Holt said she will run in the Bathurst East-Nepisiguit-Saint-Isidore riding when a byelection is called.

The riding was held by long-time Liberal MLA Denis Landry, who retired earlier this year to run in the local government elections.

No date has been set for when the byelection will take place.

Holt says it’s been emotional to hear from so many people who are struggling and reaching out to anyone who can help with their healthcare, education or housing crisis.

“It certainly motivates me to get up and work every day, but I wish change could come faster and I wish I was hearing and seeing more empathy from this government towards the struggles that New Brunswickers are facing,” Holt said.
