Young Sandy Lake Artist Involved In Important Fundraiser

By Mike Ebbeling Dec 26, 2022 | 11:28 AM

A 14-year-old artist from Sandy Lake First Nation is helping spread joy to others this holiday season.

Jade Linklater has partnered with Mikinakoos Children’s Fund on festive cards featuring a selection of her heart.

All proceeds from sales go directly to the charity and are available to purchase online.

Mikinakoos is based in Sioux Lookout and was created to address poverty by providing basic amenities, such as food, clothing, sports equipment, shelter and essential items to Indiginous children residing in remote First Nations communities.

Jade’s mother, Carol Linklater, says Jade only started this venture in March noting one day she picked up a paintbrush and started painting.

The artwork on the cards shows a forest and lake landscape, an eagle flying at night and a wolf howling at the moon.

Carol says her daughter gets inspiration from landscapes in our community.

Emily Shandruk is Mikinakoos Executive Director and says “It’s our mandate to work with local businesses and artists and it’s especially exiting when those individuals are youth themselves, which is the demographic their Fund supports.”
