NORAD Preparing To Track Santa’s Journey

The excitement is building, and Santa Claus will soon be coming to town.     NORAD will be on alert to ensure that he arrives safely.

The Continental Air Defense Command began tracking Santa on his long flight in 1955.   NORAD or the North American Aerospace Defense Command took over three years later.

It all started by accident in 1955,  with a misprinted phone number on a department store advertisement.

A young child trying to reach Santa called the number and it reached the operations centre instead.    The Commander on duty played along and from there the tradition was history.  They’ve been monitoring Santa’s Christmas eve flight ever since.

Children can also call the Centre on December 24th, to talk directly to a staff member who can tell you Santa’s exact location or monitor online or on the NORAD Santa app.
