Fire Safety Tips This Holiday Season

By Mike Ebbeling Dec 21, 2022 | 10:42 AM

Local fire officials are offering a few tips this year in regards to holiday fire safety.

Statistically Christmas Eve and Christmas are amongst the most likely days a house fire will break out and that’s mainly due to one increased risk factor, Christmas Trees.

Officials say keeping your tree safe takes only two things; hydration and safe decorations.

For decorations that means no flammable materials.

Any electrical connections should conform with CSA standards and any cords with damage should be replaced.

For natural trees, it’s recommended you go as fresh as possible, watering daily in a sturdy stand with extra supports to ensure it doesn’t fall.

You should discard your tree as soon as it starts to dry out and if you are leaving your home for extended periods of time it’s recommended you disconnect any tree lighting.
