Late-Week Storm Could Bring Heavy Rain, Strong Winds

There may be very little snow left on the ground in our region by the time Christmas Eve rolls around.

Forecasters are tracking an intense storm that could bring a lot of rain and wind to southern New Brunswick.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for the entire province on Tuesday morning.

The national weather agency said the storm is expected to move in Friday afternoon and persist into Saturday.

“While it is too soon to provide specific details, the potential exists for strong winds accompanied by significant amounts of rain over southern New Brunswick, with snow and freezing rain followed by rain over central and northern New Brunswick,” said the statement.

“This system may impact travel and utility outages are possible.”

Large waves, high winds and storm surge may also cause coastal erosion and damage to coastal infrastructure along the southern Bay of Chaleur and the Acadian Peninsula.

Forecasters said additional information will be provided as the weekend approaches and the details become more certain.
