The city is looking into another location for an indoor turf facility.

Soccer Northwest has proposed a site adjacent to the Community Auditorium.

The cost for an assessment, floor plan and possible traffic study is set at $170,000.

Councillor Rajni Agarwal says environmental studies could show the area unfit for the facility, but in the end an indoor turf facility will happen.

“What is the best facility for the least impact on our citizens to give the greatest enjoyment to the children, and actually adults as well, all the users who will be using the facility.”

However Agarwal is concerned over going to far into the project, such as the commissioning of designs for a building that cannot be built, should some ‘red flags’ be raised during the environmental assessment.

“It’s important to take it step by step, I know we have a constricted time period, but we also had in the resolution last week, that we would allow for an extension if they required the extension.”

A staff report on the facility is expected to be given to council by mid March.
