Powerful Wind And Rain Storm Expected This Weekend

By Kevin Northup Dec 20, 2022 | 11:23 AM

Spending Christmas Eve in the dark is a real possibility.

A powerful wind and rain storm is expected to hit the province Friday into Saturday, meaning there is potential for power outages.

Meteorologist Ian Hubbard with Environment Canada says warnings aren’t in place yet, but they’re keeping a close eye on it.

“It looks like there is a potential for wind warnings for many areas during that time period, Friday night into Saturday morning. We’ll see as we get closer to the weekend how this is going to play out,” says Hubbard.

He says it could warm up to nine degrees in some areas during the storm.

Hubbard says colder air will move in Christmas Eve, but the chances of a white Christmas are pretty slim.

“Any snow on the ground now will have a hard time lasting through this event. By the time we get to later in the day Christmas Eve, we’ll see it cool down, so some areas could see flurries but, you’ll be hard-pressed to see a white Christmas on Sunday.”

A special weather statement is in effect for most of the province.
