MODY Increases Doctor Retention Funding

By Kevin Northup Dec 16, 2022 | 9:36 AM

Another local council will increase support for doctor recruitment efforts in Yarmouth.

The Municipality of the District of Yarmouth approved 30-thousand dollars in funding over the next three years for a Community Navigator, that’s up from 25 thousand.

The move follows the same pattern as the Town of Yarmouth and the Municipality of Argyle.

Yarmouth Warden John Cunningham says the Community Navigator is needed here.

“Unfortunately, there’s a 24.6 per cent rate of people without a family physician. Anything the municipality can do, we’re certainly all for it. We want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem,” says Cunningham.

He says it’s great to see councils step up, but it’s unfortunate that municipal money has to go into a provincial program.

The town announced earlier this week that they would also increase their funding.
