YCMHS, PEB Ready For Timber Cup

The annual Timber Cup tournament begins Friday at Mariners Centre.

Eight boys high school hockey teams will compete over three days.

The tournament is once again being co-hosted by the Yarmouth high Vikings and Par-en-Bas Sharks.

Head Coach for the Sharks Julien Boudreau says they’ve been working hard to put it together.

“We have all kinds of volunteers from both sides that have been working behind the scenes. We know that our hospitality room and seafood chowder will be ready,” says Boudreau.

Digby and Clare will also be taking part, along with Avon View, Eastern Shore, Bayview and West Kings.

Vikings Head Coach Jake MacLeay says there’s a rivalry on the ice, but it’s great to partner with Par-en-Bas.

“Outside of the teams, there are sponsorships. We’ve had no problems getting donations from the community, so we thank them for helping us put this on,” says MacLeay.

The puck drops Friday morning at 11 as the Sharks face Clare.

Yarmouth and PEB won’t meet in the round-robin, and are hoping for a showdown for the Timber Cup.

The Vikings haven’t won it in ten years, while the Sharks are still searching for their first Cup.

Games in Arena 1 will be livestreamed by MC Media.
