First Winter Wallop, More Coming This Weekend

By Allan Dearing Dec 14, 2022 | 4:59 PM

The first major snowfall of the season brought about 20 cm to southeast New Brunswick.

Similar amounts fell up north from Miramichi to Bathurst to Caraquet but Fredericton and Saint John received about 10 cm or less.

Environment Canada meteorologist Jill Maepea said snow flurries will linger with highs near freezing the rest of the week.

“We’re going to stay in a very northerly, moist flow. We’re going to see on and off flurries, drizzle, some freezing drizzle and it’s going to remain quite cloudy.”

Maepea adds forecasters are watching another system developing which could bring mixed precipitation to parts of the province this weekend.

“We are seeing varied outcomes from this system whether the snow moves to the north of the province or it stays in the south. We really don’t know yet where it’s going to impact the most.”
