By Tim Davidson Dec 14, 2022 | 9:16 AM

The Kenora Sportsplex will soon have another option for toddlers and kids.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund has confirmed $145,938 towards the purchase of new play equipment.

Megan Derouard helps run the volunteer facility they hope to install it soon.

“We are looking at starting in the spring because the equipment obviously couldn’t have been purchased and ordered until we enough funding to be able afford it,” says Derouard.

“So it will be a complete climb, run and throw structure.”

Derouard adds  that the play structure will be unique for the region.

“There’s nothing like it anywhere in our region.  You would have to go to Winnipeg in order to access something of this type and we are just so excited to be able to offer this to our families, our kids and our community.”

The new play structure will be located in the upper viewing room of the Sportsplex and will have three defined play areas for different age groups, as well as a sitting area for adults.

Sportsplex volunteer Heather Pihulak says they had to raise about 40 percent of the cost of the play structure.
