Meeting on New U.S. Border Plans Goes Tomorrow

The discussion of a new customs office and entry point into the United States takes place tomorrow in International Falls.

The U.S. Public Buildings Services and General Services Administration are inviting the public to a meeting to learn more about the project and provide feedback.

The project proposes new customs facilities being constructed on land along the Rainy River to the east of the existing port of entry. It would also change the roads leading in and out of Canada.

A project fact sheet released in the fall revealed costs, including land acquisition, to be estimated at nearly $250 million dollars.

The project is now going through an environmental impact phase.

Construction is not expected to begin until 2026 with the new 

Tomorrow’s meeting will take place at the Koochiching County Court Administration Building from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
