Classes cancelled for third consecutive day at Dartmouth school

By Steve MacArthur Dec 12, 2022 | 7:52 PM

No classes for a third straight day at Bicentennial School in Dartmouth.

In an update on Monday night, the school announced classes will be cancelled on Tuesday, December 13 as they wait for some other test results for asbestos.

Students were sent home last week after asbestos was found in two classrooms under construction at the school.

Air quality tests have come back clear, after higher than acceptable levels were detected last week.

“If we are unable to reopen on Wednesday, teachers will be prepared for at-home learning,” said Steve Gallagher, Executive Director of Halifax Regional Centre of Education. “In the event this happens, and your child requires a Chromebook, please let the teacher know.”

The Bicentennial is a pre-primary to Grade 9 school.

Inhalation of asbestos fibres over time can lead to various lung conditions and cancer.
