Agriculture Minister Greg Morrow announced a new pilot project today for Northwoods Halifax campus. The project will allow for more locally produced foods to be put on the menu at the facility. The Halifax campus is the largest long term care facility in Atlantic Canada.

“We have ambitious goals when it comes to buy local, we want 20 percent of all money spent on food in this province to be on local food.” says Minister Morrow. “When we buy local, we can feel good about what we’re serving our loved ones and our money stays in Nova Scotia.”

The pilot project will support the transition from imported to locally grown and produced food and allow the facility to access up to $25,000 in incentives. Northwoods is currently working with suppliers.

The next step is to expand the program to more nursing homes and other public places like schools and healthcare facilities
