An unexpected donation to the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation.

With the Canadian Senior Curling Championships taking place here, the Sandra Schmirler Foundation gave ten-thousand dollars.

Mary Surette, the hospital foundation’s managing director says they are honoured.

“We received a call letting us know that they’d like to donate some funds to help our health department, and our women and children,” says Surette.

The money will go toward the purchase of three patient monitors for women and children.

“This was one of our fundraising items for this year, so we’re so pleased and honoured to receive this.”

Schmirler, an Olympic gold medalist in curling, passed away in 2000 from cancer.

The foundation was created in her name to help hospitals treat sick children.
