City Looking At Options For Closed Section Of Coker Road

By Tim Davidson Dec 6, 2022 | 10:03 AM

A section of Coker Road that’s currently closed could re-open to one lane of traffic later this winter.

That’s one option being looked at by the city.

City engineer Marco Vogrig says that depends what geo-technical studies on the section of road, east of the Kelly Road.

“We found that bedrock was still almost 50 feet down,” Vogrig updated city council on Monday.

“It was determined the underlying soils of road base were quite mucky and not really good materials for a base to sit on.”

Vogrig says it could be January before any geo-technical studies of that section of road can take place.

“We would be looking to provide more information to council in the future when we can get some geo-technical engineering back in our laps here…some alternatives about what options they can come up with.  Even a short term solution may be opening up one lane later in the winter.”

A section of Coker Road east of the Kelly Road has been closed until the city can find out why it’s failing.

He says part of the road has dipped about three feet and they want to find out why.
