The province has started to advertise for a new judge to serve out of the Fort Frances Courthouse.

The province’s Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee is now accepting applications for the position.

Potential candidates must have been a lawyer for at least ten years.

A posting says the judicial position will include presiding over criminal law and family matters and travel within the regional boundaries and elsewhere in the province of Ontario, as assigned by the Regional Senior Justice and/or the Chief Justice.

Applications will be accepted until January 6, 2023.

Fort Frances has been without a resident judge since 2012.

Judges from other communities have often travelled to Fort Frances to preside over cases since.

The Rainy River District Law Association was informed last week of the province’s decision to fill the vacancy.
