The Girl Guides of Canada have narrowed down their search for a new name for their Brownies program to two finalists; Embers and Comets.

In November, the organization announced that they would be seeking a new name for the program which is for girls aged 7-8, as they wanted to find a name that was more inclusive.

The two names were nominated by team of individuals which included Girl Guides along with representatives from various organizations that represent marginalized communities.

The Ember name is meant to signify “small but full of potential! They have energy within them just waiting to be unleashed, and when they work together, they can ignite a powerful flame.”

Comets on the other hand are said to “inspire as they travel through space, reflecting light and boldly blazing a trail. If you keep your eyes on the night sky, they might even surprise you with a meteor shower.”

Members of Girl Guides Canada have now been sent a link where they can vote on their favourite, which will then become the new name.

Voting closes on December 13, then the winner will be announced in January in order to be implemented when the 7-8 year old programs starts up again in September.
