OPP Costs For Kenora OPP Decrease Next Year

By Tim Davidson Dec 1, 2022 | 10:03 AM

Police costs for the city are expected to go down next year.

The estimates for the Kenora OPP in 2023 are $6.618 million.

Inspector Jeff Duggan says that a decrease of just over $100,000.

“That’s trending downwards, which is a good trend to have,” Duggan told the Kenora Police Services Board on Wednesday.

“It hasn’t trended downward for quite some time.  It’s trending downward across the province. When you look at different municipalities, even a municipality like Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls, which is the other municipality we police, they are trending downward as well.”

Duggan there were fewer calls for service over the past couple of years, which helps make up part of the OPP’s costs.

“With COVID our calls for service were down.  Likely that’s why calls are trending down.  There are some other factors in that.  All that to say that policing costs are trending down and hopefully will continue to trend down as time goes on.”

This past year, the city spent $6.741 million for the Kenora OPP.
