Tums Recalled Over Risk of Fibreglass In Certain Tablets

By Katie Nicholls Dec 1, 2022 | 9:54 AM

You might have these in your lunch bag, at your desk or in your cupboards at home… but it’s best to throw them out.

Health Canada and the makers of Tums, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare ULC, are recalling the product because there could be fibreglass pieces and other materials, including paper and aluminum foil in them.

The peppermint flavour tabs issued in regular strength came in packs of 12 and were sold starting Oct. 25.

Health Canada notes that the fragments should likely pass through most people’s digestive systems with no concern. However, elderly people and people who have narrow areas in their intestines because of disease or surgery may be at risk of injury.

More details on the recall can be found here.
