A Yarmouth veteran is 105 years old.

Jim McRae, who was a pilot in the Second World War, celebrated the milestone yesterday at the legion with friends and family.

He says he’s been lucky over the years.

“I feel good, I have never had much for headaches, or aches or pains. My memory isn’t what it used to be. I’m so thankful for the support,” says McRae.

His family set a goal to receive 105 birthday cards, but the final tally will be over 800.

His daughter Susan Amon says the outpouring of well-wishes has been overwhelming.

“Although he’s quite humble, it’s been very moving for him. He appreciates every single expression,” says Amon.

McRae was presented with certificates from Liberal leader Zach Churchill and Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood.

A fly-over from a CP-140 jet from 14 Wing Greenwood was planned, but had to be cancelled due to weather.
