A COVID outbreak has occurred at Riverside Health Care’s Rainy River Long-Term Care Home.

Riverside says it is taking steps to minimize spread, including limiting patient visits to one visitor or caregiver at any time.

Facility staff are also isolating symptomatic individuals and doing additional high-touch cleaning practices as further measures to prevent spread.

At the same time, a gastrointestinal outbreak at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances has ended.

That started two weeks within the hospital’s First Floor in-patient unit.

Riverside is continuing detailed safety procedures and infection prevention control measures as a precaution.

Riverside reminds the public to prevent getting and spreading infections by:

• Washing hands often, for at least 15 seconds with soap and warm water or by using an
alcohol-based hand sanitizer,
• Maintaining good cough and sneeze etiquette, including sneezing/couching into a
tissue, your sleeve or elbow,
• Putting all used tissues in the garbage right away,
• Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, and
• Staying at home if sick to avoid spreading infections to others.
