Yarmouth Town Council To Ask UARB To Remain Status Quo

By Kevin Northup Nov 28, 2022 | 11:56 AM

Yarmouth town council wants to keep six councillors and one mayor.

They’ve asked the Utility and Review Board to maintain status quo after a Municipal Boundary Review.

Currently, the mayor and councillors are elected at large, meaning each resident can contact any member of council with concerns.

Mayor Pam Mood says the population is growing, and it wouldn’t make sense to change things now.

“We are very taxed as a council, probably to the max. The ability now with social media to hear concerns from citizens is also tremendously important,” says Mood.

She says they don’t just sit at the table.

“There’s lots more to do in 2022. We have over 20 committees that we’re on, and lots more concerns.”

In an online survey, two thirds of respondents said they’d like to maintain six councillors, one third said they’d reduce it to four.

Seventy-four percent said they prefer electing at large.
