Since 2022, homicide rates across Canada have risen.

Across the country, the rise of homicides has increased by three per cent per 100,000 people. This is the highest it’s been since 2005 according to Statistics Canada.

While Regina, Sask. recorded the highest amount in 2021 at 15 deaths with only a recorded population of 264,377.

Even though Vancouver had the highest amount of victims at 60 fatalities because their population base is so high the rate works out to be lower.

Rounding out the top three cities for homicides in 2021, includes Thunder Bay in second place with seven homicides/124,347 population and Winnipeg with 45 homicides/834,335 population.

Trois-Rivières and Guelph didn’t record any homicides last year and Kitchener–Cambridge–Waterloo only clocked in two for a population base of over 600,000 people.

Across the country, murders have risen in Canada from 2020-2021 to 788. That’s an increase of 3.82 per cent.
