A four-goal third period, capped by Kevin Bonds’ goal with just over a minute remaining in the third period, gave the hometown Fort Frances Lakers a 5-4 win over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs at the Ice for Kids Arena last night.

The win ends a five-game losing streak and a four-game losing skid on home ice.

Clark Scaddan, Brady Krentz, Dylan Wedward, and Eli Neilsen also scored for the Lakers, who were down 3-1 heading into the third.

Netminder Brendon Stroble faces 67 shots for his first win of the season.

Fort Frances Lakers added to their roster prior to the game with the acquisition of Eli Neilson from the Kam River Fighting Walleye.

The 6’3″ 190 lb defenceman from Edmonton had a goal and six assists with the Walleye before coming over to the Lakers.

A pair of third-period goals from Noah McPherson sparked the Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team to a 5-2 win over the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas Saints from Kenora at the 52 Canadians Rink.

The game was the Muskies’ NorWOSSA opener.

Ashton Veldhuisen, Evan Kabel and Nico Ruppenstein, with a shorthanded marker, which stood as the game-winner, also scored for the home side.

McPherson also had a pair of assists for a four-point night.

The International Falls Broncos boys’ team was shutout 5-0 by Rock Ridge in Virginia.

The game was played as part of a four-team jamboree.
