A toy drive is underway, initiated by The Bargain! Shop in Fort Frances.

The Together We Care Toy Drive goes until December 3.

Store Manager Dawn Gray says customers can donate a toy or make a monetary donation.

“We are supporting the Salvation Army and the United Native Friendship Centre’s Adopt-a-Family programs,” says Gray.

The campaign has been running for several years.

Gray says they usually get a goal of raising $6,500 in toys. Last year, the Fort Frances store exceeded its goal by thirty-three dollars.

Part of the campaign includes what is called Fill-a-Sleigh day.

Gray says on that day, the store will donate 10 per cent of all sales toward the local charities.

“So it doesn’t matter what you buy on the Fill-a-Sleigh day, you can just come and purchase, you know, your normal groceries or clothing and that all goes towards that 10%.”

“It really helps all the families in the community because they’re not just Fort Frances. It goes further than that and makes sure that all the children have a great Christmas. This includes the teenagers, which a lot of people forget about. It makes sure everybody has just a great Christmas, and it takes the burden off their parents a little bit.”
