New Mayor and Council Take Office Tonight

Fort Frances Mayor-elect Andrew Hallikas, shown being sworn into office as a councillor on Dec. 2018, will officially assume his new role on Nov. 21.

The inaugural meeting for a new Fort Frances town council under the guidance of Andrew Hallikas takes place tonight.

The mayor-elect, along with the incoming councillors Wendy Brunetta, Mike Behan, John McTaggart, David Kircher, Steve Maki and Mandi Olson, will take the oath of office.

The ceremony will also be marked by a smudging ceremony and an honour song.

Hallikas will also give his inaugural speech before making Behan as Deputy Mayor and appointing councillors to various town committees and boards.

He becomes the 26th mayor in Fort Frances history.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Civic Centre.
