Update: 3:40 p.m.

Mahone Bay Mayor David Devenne said at 3:35 p.m. that power has been restored to around 95 per cent of homes serviced by Mahone Bay’s electric utility.

The initial outage which was caused by the downed power line this morning was quickly resolved, however, Mayor Devenne says as they reconnected the system it overloaded the NSPI system which then caused further damage at a substation.

Crews then spent most of the day working to restore outages caused by the second outage.

Mayor Devenne estimated that the remaining homes without power would get it back by 4:00 p.m.

A downed power line in Mahone Bay is currently causing power outages around the community.

According to communications from the town a power line was downed Monday morning between Main Street and Pleasant Street and is causing some power outages.

Currently, outages are impacting residents within town and as far out as Mader’s Cove.

As Mahone Bay maintains it’s own electric utility restoration updates will not be found on Nova Scotia Power’s Outage Map, but rather will come directly from the town.

Initially, when the town first reported the downed line at 11:14 a.m. they indicated power would be restored in two hours, however, that has since changed with new information.

The latest update which was provided at 1:00 p.m. indicated that crews had begun working on substantial damage at a substation that was also damaged in relation to the downed line, power restoration is expected to take multiple hours and will happen slowly across town.
