NAN Wants Inquest Recommendations Acted On ASAP

After the death inquest of two men in city police custody, NAN is asking that recommendations made be implemented sooner than later.

The Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief, Derek Fox, wants the recommendations acted on quickly.

There were 35 recommendations that came from the death inquest of two men in city Police custody stemming back to 2014 and 2017.

Some of the recommendations include gathering a task force to investigate the possibility of opening a sobering centre in the city, as well as implementing more training for officers and Superior North EMS among other recommendations.

Two men died while in police custody in 2014 and 2017. The inquest ended with the jury finding one death undetermined, the other of natural causes after 31 testimonies were given over the course of 17 days.
