Police Make Arrest In September Homicide

Thunder Bay Police have arrested two people in connection to a homicide which occurred in late September.

Shortly after 1 a.m. on September 24th police, fire and EMS responded to reports of an injured male at Andras Court, the victim of a serious assault. He was later transported to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Shawn Newsome of Ajax.

Officers with the Major Crimes and Forensic Identification Unit picked up the investigation and with support from the Toronto Police Service identified a suspect.

Last evening a large police presence could be seen at Spence Court, including members of the Emergency Task Unit. One resident told Acadia News when a heavily armed officer knocked on their door, they were quietly told to “gather their things”. The resident was unable to return home for the next four hours, and officers could be heard searching an apartment early this morning.

A 27-year-old Toronto man has been charged with second degree murder.

Meanwhile a female suspect has been charged with:

• Accessory After the Fact to Murder • Failure to Comply with a Release Order

Both appeared in court today and have been remanded into custody.
