It’s now been over one year since Mariners on Main opened its doors.

The Yarmouth Mariners Centre took charge of the former YMCA building to ensure the community didn’t lose crucial aquatic and fitness programs.

Mariners Centre CEO Dorgam Hideib shared his feelings on their one year anniversary.

“It feels great. When you ask our staff and our users that have come in and seen the space refreshed and opened again for everyone, it’s really satisfying,” says Hideib. “We’re seeing the entire community in there, all ages.”

He says they have been able to keep the pool open consistently and are working to train new lifeguards and swim instructors.

Hideib thanked everyone who has helped get the facility open and keep it open.

“We couldn’t do it without the incredible commitment of our staff and the community for their response. They really have come in numbers, our drop-in rates and our membership rates are strong, so we’re grateful all around.”

He says the fitness centre has been completely revitalized and is now the most well equipped and modern one south of Halifax for cardiovascular and strength equipment.

To mark the anniversary, the facility is offering 15% off renewals for existing members and a free month.

They’re also offering offering 15% off a three month membership.
