NSCC student residences aims to ease housing pressure

By Steve MacArthur Nov 7, 2022 | 5:33 PM

Shovels are in the ground to build-up student housing at three NSCC’s campuses.

Akerley Campus in Dartmouth will have accommodation for 100 students when it opens in the fall of 2024.

“With our strong population growth, we have an urgent need for more housing options around the province, including for our young people in post-secondary education,” said Premier Tim Houston. “Housing takes time to build and that’s why we were quick to announce significant investments in campus housing in the Dartmouth and Pictou regions. It’s great to see the progress being made on these projects, as they are an important part of our larger housing strategy.”

The Waterfront Campus in Dartmouth will soon have a 200-bed dorm and the NSCC in Stellarton is getting a 50-bed complex.

The Ivany Campus project will be ready in 2025.

It is all part of a $112 million project to ease pressure on housing as more than 3,000 students attend those colleges.
