One Arrested After Cab Driver Assaulted

A Thunder Bay man has been arrested after assaulting a cab driver on October 23rd.

The driver had picked up a couple at the Casino and after arriving at the destination the male refused to pay the fare before he assaulted and robbed the driver and fled the area.

When Thunder Bay Police arrived shortly after midnight they found the victim with several injuries to their face.

Officers were able to get a positive identification of the suspect, however were unable to arrest them until November 3rd after a call to a Windsor Street address for an unwanted person.

After locating the suspect in the home, he attempted to provide officers with a false identity, after which he was arrested.

Police also seized a quantity of suspected cocaine and cash, along with a bicycle that was part of a theft investigation by a School Resource Officer. The bike was taken in a daylight theft from a local high school, and has since been returned to its owner.

The 31-year-old faces the following charges:

• Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 x 2 • Assault Causing Bodily Harm • Robbery with Violence • Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking • Obstruct Peace Officer • Unlawfully in Dwelling House • Failure to Comply with Probation Order x 2 • Failure to Comply with Release Order x 2

He appeared in court today, and was remanded into custody.
