Most Schools to Close on Friday

Most schools in the Rainy River District will close tomorrow.

It is because of the planned strike action by education workers represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

The Northwest Catholic District School Board says all its schools will not open on Friday.

The Rainy River District School Board is closing all but Nestor Falls, McCrossen-Tovell and Mine Centre Schools, as well as the Ge Da Gi Binez Centre program and United Native Friendship Centre Alternative Secondary School Program.

Both boards, in messages to parents say they can’t ensure the safety of students with key staff members like custodians, office staff and early childhood educators off the job.

Both boards are also prepared to move to online learning if the strike drags on.
