Confidence in Halifax police chief in question

More than 96 per cent of unionized members of Halifax Regional Police do not have confidence in their leadership.

Members have been voting for the last two weeks on whether they have confidence in chief Dan Kinsella.

Sergeant Dean Steinburg of the Halifax Regional Police Association (HRPA) said 83.7 per cent of HRP members took part in the vote.

He feels it is a serious concern that requires the full attention of city, police commission and the Department of Justice.

According to the association, officer’s feel they are not supported, and are upset over a lack of resources. Another issue is lack of planning for major events such as Dalhousie’s homecoming party when about 4,000 people partied in the streets of Halifax.

Kinsella started as chief in 2019 after coming to our city from Hamilton.
