The Fort Frances Muskies girls’ hockey team was defeated 1-0 in the final of the Husky Classic in Winnipeg yesterday morning.

They lost to Kenora’s Thomas Aquinas Saints.

The Muskies had finished second in their pool before beating the previously-unbeaten Jeanne Sauve Olympiens 1-0 to reach the final.

 

 

 

The boys’ team reached the semi-finals of the B-side, losing 4-3 to the Lord Selkirk Royals.

The Muskies had lost 4-1 to the Garden City Fighting Gophers, beat the Steinbach Regional Sabres 6-1 and tied the St. John’s-Ravenscourt Eagles 2-2.

 

The International Falls Broncos varsity girls’ volleyball team is onto the semi-final in the Section 7-2A divisional playoffs after a thrilling five-game win over Mesabi East on Friday.

The Broncos dropped the first two games, 18-25 and 23-25, before rallying for three convincing wins by scores of 25-16, 25-8 and 15-6.

The No. 2 ranked Broncos now face top-ranked Hermantown on Wednesday.

The International Falls Broncos football team was eliminated from the Section 7AA playoffs with a 36-0 loss to Crosby-Ironton on Saturday.

The Fort Frances Lakers dropped both games of a road trip to Dryden, losing 8-4 on Friday and 7-2 on Saturday.

Ryker Watt, with a pair, Clark Scaddan and Kevin Bond scored in Friday’s game.

Scaddan and Bond had goals on Saturday.

 

Piper Miller scored her second of the season for the Pilot Mound Buffalos in an 8-1 loss on Friday to Edge School Hockey Academy from Calgary.

Tyler Vanuden had three goals in two games for Buffalo State College, two of which stood as game-winners in games against Lawrence University.
