EHS is adding nurses to the 911 team.

The province announced today that starting in November registered nurses will be at the EHS communications centre to give medical advice and treatment options to callers.

They say the goal is to add more resources for non-life threatening injuries so paramedics can focus on emergencies.

Health related calls that won’t need paramedic assistance may be transferred to an EHS nurse to assess and give medical advice.

It’s one of the provinces moves this year to help get paramedics back on the roads faster.

Nova Scotia’s EHS Medical communications centre will be the third in Canada to have a nurse on staff.
