The Emo-LaVallee Community Centre will be the site of a Hallowe’en Skateathon this weekend.

The event is designed to raise revenue for arena improvements.

One of the organizers, Lori-Ann Shortreed, says it will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

“We just thought this would be a really fun way to get kids out, (take part in) fun Halloween activities. They get to wear their costume another day and help raise some money for the arena,” says Shortreed.

Shortreed says there have been some improvements taking place at the arena this summer, and they would like to do a few more things and raise a bit of money to make that happen.

There is a minimum pledge of $20 per skater or $50 per family to take part.

Pledge forms are found on the Emo township website.

“We have some great businesses who have donated prizes. We’re going to have some prizes that are going to happen out on the ice and some games for the kids. We’re going to some spot dances, some free dances. I’m hoping to round up a live pinata again,” says Shortreed.

There will also be prizes for the best costumes in different age groups.

There will also be prizes for the people that bring in the most pledges.

“The arena is a big part of the community of Emo. A lot of events happened there, including minor hockey and numerous other events. So, it’s important to make sure that our arena looks good,

and is safe and is the healthy spot for the community to gather. That’s why we’re taking a little bit of an initiative this year to just raise a little bit of extra money to make sure that it can be a viable and exciting part of Emo’s community for years to come.”
