Campground Building Destroyed In Saint Andrews

Around two dozen firefighters from Saint Andrews and St. George responded to an early morning blaze at Kiwanis Oceanfront Camping in Saint Andrews.

Fire Chief Kevin Theriault said the call came in just after 7 a.m. Wednesday for a fire in a recreation centre.

“[The] first crew arrived on scene and found a building at the campground fully involved in fire with a propane tank in close proximity,” Theriault said.

Theriault said the fire was contained to the one building.

Any trailers that would normally be nearby were moved out for the winter, he said.

The main fire was knocked down in about an hour and crews mopped up for another hour and a half after that.

No injuries were reported to firefighters or anyone else.

The Fire Marshal’s Office and RCMP are looking into the cause.
