Halifax & Region Military Family Resource Centre

A daycare for members of the Canadian Armed Forces in the city is closing its doors.

The Halifax & Region Military Family Resource Centre will shut down its operation by March. The centre tells us it’s a direct result of staffing shortages in the sector.

“Not having enough trained staff directly affected our ability to provide a consistent and reliable service to families, despite the exhaustive efforts that were made to actively recruit and retain ECE staff.” – Emailed statement from H&R MFRC

They say their Windsor Park Children’s Centre is often one staff absence from having to turn families away at drop off.

“We made every effort to avoid this outcome, it was our last resort. We are committed to providing military families with a high standard of care and understand the impacts of this decision. We will continue to operate our Shearwater Children’s Centre.”

The centre will help families make the move to their other location in Shearwater or secure other child care before the closure.
