Pasqualino Takes Northwood

By Adam Riley Oct 25, 2022 | 1:47 AM

The results are in and the residents of Northwood have chosen Dominic Pasqualino to represent that ward for the next four years. He takes over from Shelby Ch’ng who ran, and won, in the At-Large race this year.

He says he saw lots of support as he knocked on doors during the campaign, which was proven last night. But from here the hard work starts, hard work he says which is uncertain.

“Getting elected is one step, but it’s still a long journey,” Pasqualino say while speaking to reporters while visiting Thunder Bay City Hall Monday evening, “There’s a lot of things that have to be done, a lot of important decisions that have to be done, and like four years ago we didn’t know that we were gonna go through Covid, so we really don’t know what the future is going to be.”

But one thing Pasqualino says needs to happen fast is having both the city and the incoming council capitalize on mining opportunities in the surrounding region that could use Thunder Bay as a hub. The long time union leader, who won Northwood with just shy of 42 percent of the vote, believes 10 thousand new workers and their families settling in the city could be a game-changer.

“We need to look at bringing those jobs here, and if we’re not careful those jobs will go to another surrounding community. So the city has to be trying to bring those jobs here.” Adding that number of jobs is equivalent to the population of a single ward within the city.
